Nutrition and Food Sciences
Bachelor of Science (BS)
University of Vermont in Burlington, VT
The B.S. in Nutrition & Food Sciences (NFS) is our most flexible major: It allows you to customize your coursework to fit your educational and career goals. As an NFS major, you will select NFS courses in addition to core college requirements. An NFS degree will prepare you for a career in the commercial food processing industry, the federal government or academic research. Americans are increasingly demanding nutritious, tasty and ultra-convenient foods and, as a result, the food science field is booming. On a more sober note, the vulnerability of our food system (to food-borne illnesses and bioterrorism) demands some serious problem-solving and scientific research. An NFS major, with a focus on food science electives, will give you entry into these important careers. NFS is a perfect curriculum for pre-medical studies because you`ll get the same solid foundation in general and biological sciences that you would if you were to pursue a more general science, plus you'll come away with an area of expertise. Consider the role diet plays in the prevention and treatment of chronic conditions, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and hypertension. An NFS background will enable you to pursue a graduate education and a career that embraces a holistic approach to health care.

Landscape Architecture 3-Year Program
Master of Fine Arts (MFA)
Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI
Fully accredited by the American Society of Landscape Architects, RISD's MLA program is unique in that it gives students access to a wide range of fine art and design courses on campus, along with classes at Brown University, study abroad options and a six-week Wintersession that allows for focused study on campus or off. In addition, the program revolves around environmental and global issues, with recent involvement in projects in Bangladesh, Costa Rica, Ghana and beyond. The three-year program is for students with undergraduate degrees in fields other than landscape architecture. At the heart of the curriculum—from the initial design foundation/field ecology course to the core studio sequence—is the design studio, a forum for investigating aesthetic ecological, cultural and technological issues. In sharing core courses, students in Landscape Architecture and related departments such as Architecture and Industrial Design develop a common language that serves as a foundation for cross-disciplinary discourse and encourages individual exploration and expression.

Graphic Design 3-Year Program
Master of Fine Arts (MFA)
Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI
RISD's graduate program in Graphic Design prepares students for professional practice by emphasizing the roles of social context, media and aesthetics in the production of visible language systems. As a reflection of the discipline itself, the program encourages a nimble and intelligent response to constant change and burgeoning technology, while building a strong foundation of formal, aesthetic and analytical knowledge. MFA candidates choose between two program tracks: a two-year option for students entering with undergraduate degrees in graphic design or other visual communication, and a three-year option for those with degrees in liberal arts, the sciences or fine arts. Built on a sequence of required courses, the curricula for both allow candidates to tailor individual courses of study through cross-disciplinary electives.
