The Surveying and mapping technology program is designed to teach the student the basic elements of surveying required of a land surveyor as well as to provide part of the formal training required for a professional license. Boundary surveying is emphasized and includes: history, evaluating property corners, measuring boundaries, describing land by metes and bounds, calculating land areas, and using the Texas Coordinate System. The student also has the opportunity to study mapping, route surveying, control surveying, Global Positioning System, and electronic data collection. After successful completion of the two-year program, the student receives the associate in applied science degree. The curriculum below has been compiled to apply fully to the requirements for the Surveyor-in-Training Certificate (SIT) awarded by the Texas Board of Professional Land Surveyors as it is defined in Section 1071.253 of the Professional Land Surveying Practices Act.
