The purpose of the Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree is to meet the needs of non-traditional students who desire a baccalaureate degree incorporating prior learning experiences. Students may combine previous academic credit from accredited community colleges or technical/vocational programs. Students may receive up to one year's credit with the use of the American Council on Education (ACE) guide, CLEP, or military credit. Through the B.A.A.S. program, students can apply the academic credit hours earned for an associate’s degree toward a bachelor’s degree within the requirements of the university. This program allows students to use the maximum number of junior college semester credit hours for the applied arts and sciences program. The major of General Studies is available. The General Studies major is intended for students interested in a broad, general program of personal enrichment. Alumni of the program enter a wide variety of career fields in business, industry, and public service. A recent graduate combined EMT training with courses in business, criminal justice, and planning for a career in law enforcement. Another graduate, who combined business and marketing courses, was recently selected for a managerial training position with a major retailer.
