The Forensic Biology Program at Ashland University was developed to meet the needs of students interested in pursuing a career in forensic biology, the application of biological principles to law enforcement. This optional concentration in the Biology Major provides a strong background in both biology and chemistry, along with specialized upper level courses specifically applicable to forensics. Course work in the UniversityÕs Criminal Justice Department complements the science to add a foundational understanding of law enforcement. After graduation, forensic biology majors will be well prepared for either on-the-job training in a forensics laboratory or for graduate study in the area of forensics. Our Forensic Biology Program strengths include: Over 20 years experience teaching forensic science. Coursework that meets the FBI standards for a DNA analyst in a forensic science laboratory. Much of the above average growth in forensic science job opportunities will be for DNA analysts. The opportunity to take unique forensics-related coursework offered by the DepartmentÕs Toxicology program, one of only a few undergraduate Toxicology programs in the country. Modern teaching and research labs with the cutting-edge tools used in molecular biology Ð the foundation for current forensic biology. The opportunity to gain laboratory experience and course credit by conducting independent research with one of our faculty members. A track record of placing graduates in positions with the FBI, Ohio Highway Patrol, Drug Enforcement Agency and local forensic science labs and coroners offices, as well as in Masters and PhD programs in forensic science.
