The Communication Arts degree will prepare students to be competent communicators in today's diverse and evolving business, professional, and academic fields. Communication Arts has a variety of emphases through which a student can follow interests, develop abilities, and channel talents. Each emphasis will enhance studentsÕ critical thinking, communication, and field-specific technology skills. Studies include hands-on media and communication activities. Departmental organizations allow students to practice skills while having fun. Top-notch internships provide students with experience in the professional world. Graduates will: 1) understand the functionality of both communication and media within society; 2) develop knowledge and skills necessary to function as a productive member in the communication arts field. Students wishing to study Communication Arts may choose from: Electronic Media Production (Audio or Video) Journalism Public Relations Speech Communication. A student in Communication Arts canÉ Assist with live radio production at KCOZ, the College radio station Cover news events on campus and in the community Create and write for a newspaper, magazine, or other publication Help record music CDs and other individual projects Interview interesting people, such as entertainers and politicians Organize and present speeches to campus groups Plan and execute campus-wide events Plan large-scale events for the campus or the community Record C of O basketball games for viewing on a professional TV station Record other events for campus departments and offices Write and produce commercials Write and produce videos and sound recordings Write press releases for media outlets
