What YouÕll Love About the Biology Program: We offer a strong pre-professional program with an excellent track record of our graduates being accepted into highly competitive medical programs. From 2004 to 2008, 82 percent of Ashland students who applied to professional schools were admitted within one year after graduation. You will have opportunities to carry out research at the undergraduate level, working closely in a mentoring relationship with faculty. These research projects can lead to opportunities to present your work at a national conference or to publish as a co-author. You will study in our state-of-the-art facilities that recently underwent a $12 million renovation to create three laboratories dedicated to faculty/student research. Freshman can undertake research projects, but usually students begin research their sophomore or junior year. Students at Ashland have more opportunity for student research and definitely more opportunity to work directly with faculty members than students at large universities. The department has new facilities and top of the line research-level equipment in both research and teaching laboratories so you gain valuable hands-on experience that prepares you for a future career. You get lots of individual attention from professors because classes and labs are purposely kept small. We have over 20 years of experience teaching forensic biology and a strong track record of preparing students for exciting careers in the field. The biology program has been highly successful in securing major grants for student research projects, opening exciting opportunities for advanced study.
