Students who enroll at Itawamba Community College with the intent to transfer to a university should consider the importance of an associate's degree. Credits applied toward the associate's degree will transfer to the university. In addition, degree recipients will earn 25 percent more, land a job twice as fast, be more likely to get a promotion and less likely to be laid off. Although students are encouraged to participate in the commencement ceremony, it is not required. Institutions of Higher Learning will accept all transferable courses and the 32 hour general education core with a grade of C or better completed as part of an Associate of Arts degree from a Mississippi community/junior college. All non-core courses may fulfill the Articulation Agreement Programs of Study. - IHL Board Policies - Section 609. In addition to the core courses, Associate of Arts degree candidates should have 31 elective courses. Those who are on the Associate of Applied Sciences degree track should have 15-16 hours of general education core courses and 48 hours of required courses.
